If I am to say anything profound must "I" say it? If my thoughts are indeed mine, meaning that there is something more than an abstraction that carries my legal name, does that then mean my name is significant beyond the ability of my parents to then choose it? I digress. Who am I is the point of this post and the point may not be so clear.
Many people have weighed in on this from Descartes to Abraham. But who makes the most convincing argument as to dissolve the illusion of the self. I may have colored that last sentence to much for purists but how much of them is pure? and what part? is it the analytical part of them that first reads my words or is the critical side that then responds? in fact who is doing the reading? what does it mean to read in the first place. is it the comprehension of the symbols i lay down before you? then "who" is doing the comprehension? furthermore why do I say part when referring to someones personality?
That I can answer. I have seemed to pick up over the years that I am not one me but a competing set of thoughts that gerrymander and evolve into a cobbled sense of self identity. SO now my phrasing makes sense but where do I go from here? Can I make a better model of what constitutes a conscious entity?
I also have a problem with consciousness vs sentience. If you include self awareness in the definition of conscious then what about sentience. if we strip it down, sentience is, more or less, the ability to have a point of view . I find that to assume that any matter can have a point of view without any semblance of self awareness or wherewithal is Highly dubious. unless you consider something like a camera. cameras clearly of a point of view without consciousness or sentience. simply an optic device that takes in light. what makes that different than other types of matter? is it the way it converts energy ? meaning that every piece of matter is simply energy converting into another form (ie E=MC^2). is this enough to create a foundation to then evaluate reality?
I guess the better question is can I ever evaluate reality in a objective sense because I find myself trying to all the time...
ps dont make a snide remark about the fact that dimensions are not made of matter but they do matter.
